Senior Project Manager – Modular Electrical Infrastructure Projects

About the Role

We seek a highly experienced and certified Senior Project Manager to lead innovative electrical infrastructure projects focusing on prefabricated modular solutions. This is a fixed-term contract position for 18 months, based in the Johannesburg area with frequent travel to a remote site in Richards Bay. The successful candidate will report directly to the Project Director and will be responsible for managing the end-to-end delivery of projects involving the design, fabrication, testing, and implementation of modular electrical buildings for a large sub-Saharan initiative.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage large-scale electrical engineering projects from inception to completion
  • Ensure project delivery within scope, budget, and timeline while maintaining high quality standards
  • Navigate and manage contractually sensitive information and relationships with stakeholders
  • Coordinate and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including engineers, contractors, and clients
  • Oversee systems implementation and provide adaptive support as needed
  • Oversee procurement and contract management.
  • Develop and maintain project plans, schedules, and budgets
  • Identify and mitigate project risks proactively
  • Facilitate effective (controlled) communication among all project stakeholders
  • Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards, regulations, and contractual obligations
  • Manage multiple projects effectively
  • Perform resource planning, sourcing, and management
  • Set up project schedules and Work Breakdown Structures (WBS) according to strict guiding principles
  • Manage client and supplier relationships effectively

 

 

Specific Activities

  • Compile applications for payment for the contracted works, variation orders, and claims
  • Proactive contract and commercial management, including notifications, claims, and variations
  • Manage project controls including cost, resources, procurement, and quality
  • Produce progress and risk reports
  • Lead project quality report meetings
  • Manage client relationship and boundaries
  • Conduct value engineering sessions to optimize costs
  • Manage costs, cash flow and procurement scheduling
  • Draft sub-agreements and manage sub-contractors
  • Establish and oversee project close-out documentation and processes

Required Skills

  • Disciplined, proactive planning and execution, breaking down project goals into manageable tasks
  • Excellent problem-solving, critical thinking, and analytical skills
  • Strong organizational skills with a passion for maintaining an organized project structure
  • Proven track record in delivering effective programs/projects, particularly in modular electrical construction
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills with attention to detail, accuracy, and specifics
  • Ability to develop and maintain long-term relationships with team members
  • Passion for solving complex challenges within aggressive timelines
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, MS Projects, Mind Manager, Adobe, and ACAD
  • Experience with BIM software for modular electrical design is advantageous

Preferred Education

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or related engineering degree, construction management, or related field
  • Advanced degree or professional certification (ECSA & PMP) preferred
  • In-depth knowledge of project management methodologies (PMBOK), with focus on practical implementation
  • Project Management Professional certification (PMP or CAPM)

Recommended Experience

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in large scale EPC projects as a project manager
  • Proven track record of successfully delivering complex modular electrical infrastructure projects on time and within budget
  • Familiarity with relevant regulations, standards, and best practices in the EPC industry in South Africa
  • Experience in industrial electrical infrastructure projects is preferred
  • Knowledge of FIDIC based contracts
  • Understanding of modular construction techniques and prefabricated electrical solutions
