An exciting opportunity for a Design Engineer to take responsibility, from inception to completion, for entire electrical engineering projects. These projects include controls, electrical, and electronic engineering principles as well as project management
Location: Pretoria OR Port Elizabeth OR Durban, South Africa
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, PLC and PC-based controls software, and computer-generated reports.
- Create, write, and troubleshoot PLC and PC-based controls software for projects under your responsibility. This includes the use of VFD and servo-based motor control.
- Perform all necessary engineering calculations for the projects under your responsibility to ensure proper design and operation of the entire Product.
- Research and analyse design proposals, specifications, manuals, and other data to evaluate the feasibility and maintenance requirements of designs or applications.
- Specify system components or direct modification of products to ensure conformance with engineering design and performance specifications.
- Research, design, evaluate, install, operate, and maintain the following to meet system requirements, while applying knowledge of engineering principles:
- Electrical/electronic control systems
- HMI equipment
- Sensors
- Processes
- Mechanical Products
- Provide feedback to the Director of Engineering and/or others in the company on engineering-related projects, problems, opportunities, and needs.
- Oversee installation, operation, and repair to ensure that Products are installed and functioning according to specifications.
- Establish and coordinate the maintenance and safety procedures, service schedule, and supply of materials required to maintain Products in the prescribed condition.
- Recommend and design modifications to eliminate Product malfunctions.
- Develop and test models of alternate designs and processing methods to assess feasibility, operating condition effects, possible new applications and necessity of modification.
REQUIREMENTS:
- National Degree or Diploma in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
- Strong Electrical knowledge and experience
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as mechanical, fluid, and electrical engineering principles as well as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
- Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, tolerances, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Must possess good analytical and deductive reasoning abilities and memory skills.
- Must be highly organized, thorough, and possess and practice good communication skills.
