Liesen is looking for a skilled and experienced Artisan to join their team in East London (Fort Jackson Industrial Area), Eastern Cape. This will be a hands-on (spanner work), challenging and yet rewarding role at a young and dynamic company. With you, we will build our customer base and sustainably expand our market position.
Duties:
- Preventative maintenance – Reduce breakdowns, minimize scrap and unplanned downtime. Responsible for maximizing machine efficiencies and plant utilisation. Regular safety checks of trailers, plant, warehouse, and equipment.
- Proactive maintenance – Actively involved in Fault finding, report problem areas, and request needed resources. Good workmanship in machine repairs. Conduct regular inspections to identify potential maintenance needs and address them proactively.
- Facility and Plant upkeep – Manage and schedule regular Equipment & Plant maintenance on Hydraulic and Pneumatic Systems, Motors, Pumps, Valves, etc. Ensure team adheres to ‘5S’ processes and regular housekeeping.
- Weld (Oxy-Acetylene, CO2, and/or Arc welding) and fabricate where necessary. Be handy with most manual and power tools.
- Keep accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs and equipment performance and generate reports and job cards as required.
- Collaborating with other production departments – Monitor equipment performance and identify areas for improvement.
- Manage and control the replenishment of tools and consumables e.g. Gaskets, seals, nuts, and bolts, drill bits, grind discs, etc.
- Advise Managing Director – Troubleshoot maintenance issues and provide technical expertise to resolve problems efficiently. Collaborates in identifying improvement opportunities to drive cost-effective and efficient operation to maximise business profits.
- Serve as a mentor to yearly intake of work integrated learning students – Fitters, millwrights, fitter & turners, etc.
- Manage, supervise, delegate, and coordinate the work of staff, including mechanics, drivers, operators and general assistants – Lead meetings.
- HR – Performance Management System – Be involved in robust review processes, time and attendance, disciplinary, and the measurement of individual KPI achievements.
- OHS – Adheres and enforces safety regulations and report all safety hazards, accidents, and incidents.
Requirements
- Minimum Grade 12/Matric, National Senior Certificate (Taking and reading measurements)
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in repair + maintenance operations, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
- Strong technical skills and knowledge of best practices in maintenance procedures and protocols.
- Mechanical or Equivalent Technical Qualification (Advantageous).
- Trade tested (Highly advantageous).
- Basic Understanding of electricity (fault finding, switches, sensors, wiring, motor testing and phasing, etc). (Advantageous)
- Must be able to find work and execute tasks individually.
- Proven leadership skills and ability to effectively manage a team.
- Proficiency in MS Office/Excel, technically savvy (can use tablet) and/or maintenance management software.
- Excellent organizational skills, time management skills and attention to detail.
- Willing to ‘get down and be dirty’ – Work with Bitumen.
- Languages: Fluent in English and IsiXhosa
- Physically and medically fit!
- Valid driver’s licence
- Reside in East London or nearby areas – Must be able to work flexible hours and off-site as needed.
Contract Duration:
6 Month Fixed Term Contract.
