Job Purpose:

 The Cashbook Clerk is responsible for managing and reconciling cash accounts for a group of companies, ensuring accurate and timely recording of all cash transactions. This role is crucial for maintaining the integrity of the company’s cash flow and financial records.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Cashbook Maintenance: Record and reconcile daily cash transactions, including deposits, withdrawals, and bank transfers, ensuring all entries are accurate and complete.

Bank Reconciliation: Perform regular bank reconciliations to ensure that all transactions are recorded correctly and discrepancies are promptly addressed.

Transaction Verification: Verify and reconcile receipts and payments against bank statements and company records.

Petty Cash Management: Monitor and reconcile petty cash, ensuring that all expenditures are properly documented and authorized.

Payment Processing: Assist in the preparation and processing of payments, ensuring that all cash-related transactions are recorded correctly.

Reporting: Prepare cash flow reports, summaries of cash balances, and other financial reports as required by management.

Data Entry: Accurately enter and maintain cashbook records in the accounting system, ensuring data integrity and compliance with company policies.

Compliance: Ensure all cashbook activities comply with company policies, accounting principles, and legal requirements.

Support: Provide support to the finance team with ad-hoc tasks and projects as required.

Payroll: Assistance with data input and transactions

 

Qualifications and Experience: 

Matric certificate (Grade 12) or equivalent. A diploma or certificate in finance, accounting, or a related field.

Minimum of 2 years of experience in a similar role, preferably within a medium to large organization.

Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., SAP, Pastel, Sage or similar) and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word).

Payroll experience will be an advantage

Solid understanding of cashbook processes, bank reconciliations, and basic accounting principles.

Office-based role with standard working hours.

Interaction with various departments and banks.
