We are a custom moulder in rigid plastics. We started supplying rigid plastic articles to the South African market in 1972. From humble beginnings, the company has grown into one of the leading players in our industry. This company has been listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange since 1987. Our customers include a wide range of South African national companies.
We are currently in the process of recruiting for an Electrician.
This role will: Ensure production equipment, infrastructure, fixtures and all other equipment is in good operating condition and well maintained in terms of electrical issues. Conduct fault finding analysis and repairs in the event of any malfunction.
Reports to: Maintenance Manager
Responsibilities include:
- Technical
- Assemble, install, test and maintain electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus and fixtures
- Perform rigging activities (be physically capable of performing work from ladders, scaffolds,
- and roofs)
- Identify, report and rectify all technical areas of concern on electrical equipment, appliances, apparatus, and fixtures
- Perform duties in a work environment that will be hot, cold, dirty and fast-paced
- Have an in-depth understanding of:
- Electrical principles and drawings
- DC, AC, single phase, 2-phase, 3-phase, 230V, 380V, and industrial troubleshooting
- safety-related and other electrical functions
- diagnosing malfunctioning electrical systems, apparatus, components, and continuity of circuits using
- test equipment
- ohmmeter
- ammeter
- voltmeter
- oscilloscope
- hand tools
- test equipment
o systematical approach in locating the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem
o connecting of wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components.
o observing and following all safety regulations and use of required PPE.
o programming of variable frequency drives (VFD)
o compatibility and safety of systems
- Have a good understanding of
- Processes utilized (e.g. material feeding and drying, injection moulding, reheat stretch blow moulding and injection blow moulding)
- all equipment utilized
- Technical principles and drawings (e.g. assemblies and spare part finding, pneumatic, hydraulic)
- safe and proficient use of work shop tools (both hand and power)
- Fault analysis and problem solving
o Independently do fault analysis and problem solving in case of (teamwork as needed)
o malfunctioning electrical components
o machine malfunction in terms of electrical issues
o Recognize and report problems to Senior Electrician
- Maintenance
o Ensure maintenance is done at required intervals according to the plans
- Spares
o Identify electrical / electronic spares needed for equipment
- In general
- As a preventative measure identified during maintenance checks
- Administration (job)
- Log jobs performed
- Contact external suppliers as agreed with Senior Electrician to assist in solving problems
- (quotes on service, spare parts, etc.)
- Spares
- have an overview of existing stock for equipment
- Spare part analysis (= keep stock vs. source at breakdown)
- Likelihood of wear/breakage vs. cost vs. delivery time
o report parts needed to Senior Electrician and assist in decision to have on stock or source at breakdown
o assist Senior Electrician in ordering process (e.g. prepare documents, follow up on orders)
- Plan for the year ahead, assist Senior Electrician with work on budget for maintenance
- Health & Safety
- Ensure and enforce that aspects in area of responsibility conform to Health and safety requirements.
- Maintain housekeeping standards in area of responsibility (e.g. ensure cleanliness of technical areas, stores, workshops and machines).
- Work safely and report on safety hazards or issues.
- Food (Product) Safety:
- Food safety standards are site specific and at these sites employees should:
o Apply the site’s food safety principles and standards.
o Report any food safety hazards or issues to your Supervisor/Manager.
o Comply to and maintain all GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices) in relation to the Company’s FSMS (Food Safety Management System).

Prerequisites:
- A) Knowledge and Skills
- Secondary Education – Grade 12
- Tertiary Education (including Diplomas, Certificates and Degrees) – Minimum N2 in electrical trade theory and trade tested
- Experience – 5 years’ experience
- B) Competencies
