Job Details

A leading provider of Digital, Internet, and Wi-Fi management solutions is looking for a Financial Manager to oversee the day-to-day accounting, tax, administration and financial management within the Group of companies and to ensure the completion of accurate and timely financial accounting and management reporting. This role will also work very closely with the Operations Manager and other Directors within the business. 

RESPONSIBILITIES, NOT LIMITED TO: 

  • Serving as the Financial Manager across the group of companies. Each entity has different operational and accounting requirements and requires the individual to be a great multitasker to enable him/her to deliver their key tasks
  • Good accounting background required given the dynamic nature of the group which has different accounting requirements/treatments, and the person will be responsible for preparing the necessary month-end journals  
  • Bank reconciliations  
  • Day-to-day requirements include:  
    • Daily/Weekly cash flow monitoring and reporting 
    • Reviewing payments prior to release 
    • Operational update calls with the operations and sales team 
    • Forecasting and planning customer and supplier payments prior, during and after projects commence 
    • Supervising a team of at least 1-2 persons – financial accountant and project accountant 
  • Reviewing proposals/quotations prior to submission to clients to ensure they fall within the company’s GP margin thresholds and are aligned with company costings, etc. You will also be required to do post-project completion financial review on each project to ensure within budget  
  • Customer contract preparation (using existing templates) and reviewing prior to submission to FD for final approval and submission to clients  
  • Project based / Percentage completion revenue recognition principles required for reporting purposes
  •  Ensuring timeous completion of month end procedures by the team, which includes: 
    • Cashbook processing 
    • Invoice processing – accounts payable 
    • Customer Invoice processing 
    • Month-end journals which include accruals and prepayments 
  • Preparation of individual entity management accounts within reporting deadlines 
    • Providing commentary and analysis of month-on-month movements  
  • Preparation of consolidated management accounts within reporting deadlines.  Currently there is 1 group of companies consisting of 3 entities that requires consolidation at month-end 
    • Providing commentary and analysis of month-on-month movements 
  • Monthly cash and operational expenditure forecasting for each entity, together with commentary where month-on-month forecasts differ 
  • VAT reconciliation preparation and submission of VAT returns for SA entities (currently 3 entities) 
  • Dealing with the SA Revenue Services (SARS): 
    • Writing of, and filing of objections, as and when required, for all entities across all the various taxes (PAYE, VAT, and income tax) 
    • Correspondence with SARS relating to taxation matters involving the Group, including Verification & Audits 
    • E-filing which includes VAT, EMP’s, Provisional tax, Income Tax returns, etc 
  • Payroll processing including month-end payroll reconciliations. Overseeing the payroll function which includes processing changes in Sage Payroll (Two companies) 
  • Forex payment processing via current bank account and/or Forex company 
  • Company Secretarial duties which include registering new companies, registering changes to existing entities, CIPC annual returns, etc  
  • Maintenance of fixed asset registers  
  • Facilitate the annual audit and preparation of schedules and reconciliations  
  • Implement and maintain the finance policies and processes  
  • Prepare and submit applicable regulatory returns 

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE & COMPETENCIES: 

Education and Experience 

  • Recently qualified CA (SA) and/or B.Com / B.Compt / B.Acc degree minimum 
  • Preferably having completed SAICA articles 
  • Preferably at least 2-year post-article experience, which includes leading a team 
  • Experience in dealing with SARS (i.e. writing of objections / opinions / audits) 
  • Exposure to reporting in a multi-currency / multinational group environment 

Core Competencies 

  • Experience of producing financial statements and completion of working-papers / reconciliations for an annual audit 
  • Needs to be a sound financial manager with a good grasp of both basic and advanced accounting 
  • Experience in not only interpretation of financial information (i.e. financial statements), but also the ability to accurately convey (orally or in writing) your analysis and interpretation 
  • Strong written and oral communication skills which can be adapted to a range of audiences 
  • Demonstrable experience of advanced excel and good working knowledge of Word, PowerPoint and Outlook 
  • Ability to think creatively and take an innovative and flexible approach to problem solving 
  • Experience of creating and sustaining a culture of responsive, timely, reliable and knowledgeable service to users 
  • Ability to produce and implement clear financial procedures and evaluate the internal control environment 
  • Ability to prioritise tasks and manage personal and departmental schedules effectively to meet tight deadlines 
  • Experience of IFRS, internal and external audit and financial systems (i.e. Sage) 
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality 
  • Willing to work outside normal office hours when occasional circumstances dictate
