Operations Manager-Greenhouse

An exciting opportunity is opening at a Plant Production company in Oaktree, Krugersdorp. They are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Operations Manager-Greenhouse to join the team.

The Greenhouse Manager is responsible to oversee horticultural operations in his/her allocated greenhouses.

This role is essential in ensuring the hygiene, quality, and availability of our plants while managing staff and optimizing greenhouse maintenance.

The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, develop a deep understanding of horticultural practices, and a commitment to sustainability.

key Responsibilities:

1. Operational Management:

• Oversee all aspects of greenhouse operations, including plant care, irrigation systems, climate control, and pest management.
• Develop and implement standard operating procedures for daily operations and maintenance.
• Work in conjunction with growers and other team members to ensure optimal management of greenhouse.

2. Plant Care and Maintenance:

• Implement and oversee watering schedules, fertilization, and pest/disease management.
• Conduct regular inspections of plants and greenhouse facilities to ensure optimal health and performance.
• Communicate maintenance requirements with maintenance staff and ensure repairs take place within a reasonable time.

3. Staff Management:

• Hire, train, and supervise greenhouse staff, ensuring adherence to safety and operational protocols.
• Schedule staff shifts and delegate tasks effectively to maintain operational efficiency.
• Manage staff leave and attendance, monitor absenteeism trends, and ensure proper timekeeping.
• Ensure adherence to discipline standards and company policies and procedures.

4. Inventory Management:

• Manage inventory of all operational supplies, ensuring adequate stock levels are maintained.
• Coordinate with procurement for plant materials and greenhouse supplies to ensure availability.

5. Budgeting and Financial Oversight:

• Assist in the development and management of the greenhouse budget, tracking expenses and optimizing resource use.
• Identify cost-saving opportunities while maintaining high-quality plant production.

6. Research and Development:

• Stay informed about new horticultural techniques, sustainable practices, and industry trends.
• Implement innovative practices to enhance productivity and sustainability within the greenhouse.

7. Record Keeping and Reporting:

• Maintain detailed records of plant growth, pest control measures, and environmental conditions.
• Prepare reports on greenhouse performance and plant health for management and stakeholders.

8. Waste Management:

• Ensure no stock is wasted through proper planning and effective communication with the sales team to facilitate timely product sales.

Knowledge, experience and personal competencies:

• Prior experience in operations management, production management (preferred)
• Matric
• Qualification in related field would be beneficial.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Must be able to speak, read and write at least English.
• MS Office Proficiency
• Possibly National and International
• International travel may be needed on rare occasion- candidate must have or be able to obtain a passport
