Job Details

We are a custom moulder in rigid plastics. We started supplying rigid plastic

articles to the South African market in 1972. From humble beginnings, the company has grown into

one of the leading players in our industry. This company has been listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange since 1987. Our customers include a wide range of South African national companies.

We are currently in the process of recruiting for a PET Processor.  This role will ensure production equipment is in good operating conditions and well maintained. Ensure correct setting of machine. Do fault analysis in case of malfunction or rejects.

Report to:  Technical Process Manager

Responsibilities include:

Technical

  • Identify, report and rectify all technical areas of concern on assigned production equipment (machines, moulds, etc.)
  • Have an in-depth understanding of

o Product and its quality criteria

o Process (material feeding and drying, injection moulding, reheat stretch blow moulding and injection blow moulding)

o In Depth knowledge of all equipment, detailed for assigned equipment

o Mould installation

o Technical principles and drawings (e.g. assemblies and spare part finding, pneumatic, hydraulic, electric)

  • Fault analysis and problem solving
  • Independently do fault analysis and problem solving in case of (teamwork as needed)
    • Product quality, processing issues
    • mould issues
    • machine malfunction (mechanic / hydraulic / pneumatic / electric)
  • Recognize and report problems to Maintenance Manager & Production
  • Manager on other than the assigned equipment
  • Maintenance

o Independently develop maintenance plans and check lists (teamwork as needed)

  • Ensure maintenance is done at required intervals according to the plans
  • ï§ By yourself
  • ï§ By service suppliers as agreed by Maintenance Manager & Production Manager
  • ï§ Document maintenance according to the plans
  • Spares

o Identify spares needed for assigned equipment

  • In general
  • As a preventative measure identified during maintenance checks

Machine Setting

  • Independently develop machine settings (teamwork as needed)
  • Set and check that machines are correctly set for each run document settings and setting adjustments centrally
  • If needed (for fault finding, etc.) the technician is allowed to temporarily run the machine with bridged safety switch, while present at the machine. He must be aware of the risk that comes with such action and it is his responsibility to ensure he does not get himself or others into dangerous situations. He must ensure he takes the right precautions (e.g. know the movements of the machine; special PPE like face shield, etc.) for such actions. He is also responsible for ensuring that nobody else (e.g. packer) gets close to or into the âunsafeâ area of such machine.

Management

  • Liaise with Maintenance Manager & Production Manager (in charge) to ensure machine availability vs. major maintenance intervals
  • Have an overview what needs to be done and report to Maintenance Manager & Production Manager
  • Give completion dates and fulfill tasks required by Maintenance Manager & Production Manager
  • Ensure sound relationships and communication with internal work-related staff (QC, Production, etc.) and external (Bowler Plastics Toolroom, Technical department, suppliers, etc.)
  • Strive for improvement, research and make suggestions

Administration (job)

  • Log jobs performed
  • Analyze Defect Register together with Maintenance Manager & Production Manager to improve production result
  • Contact external suppliers as agreed with Maintenance Manager & Production Manager to assist in solving problems (quotes on service, spare parts, etc.)
  • Spares
  • have an overview of existing stock for equipment
  • Spare part analysis (= keep stock vs. source at breakdown)
  • Likelihood of wear/breakage vs. cost vs. delivery time
  • report parts needed to Maintenance Manager & Production Manager and assist in decision to have on stock or source at breakdown
  • assist Maintenance Manager & Production Manager in ordering process (e.g. prepare documents, follow up on orders)
  • Plan for the year ahead, assist Maintenance Manager & Production Manager with work on budget for maintenance

Health & Safety

  • Ensure and enforce that aspects in area of responsibility conform to Health and safety requirements.
  • Maintain housekeeping standards in area of responsibility (e.g. ensure cleanliness assigned machines and areas)
  • Work safely and report on safety hazards or issues
  • Report any accidents, incidents and near misses

Quality

  • Apply the companyâs quality principles and standards
  • Maintain Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)

Food Safety System Certification (FSSC)

  • Food safety standards are site specific and at these sites employees should:
  • Apply the siteâs food safety principles and standards
  • Report any food safety hazards or issues to your Supervisor/Manager
  • Comply to and maintain all GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices) in relation to the Companyâs FSMS (Food Safety Management System)

JOB EVALUATION CRITERIA

  1. A) Knowledge and Skills

Secondary Education  – Grade 12

Tertiary Education (including Diplomas, Certificates and Degrees)  – Batchelorâs Degree / Advanced Diploma in Mechanical Engineering

Experience  – 5 yearsâ relevant setting experience
