Job Details
We are a custom moulder in rigid plastics. We started supplying rigid plastic
articles to the South African market in 1972. From humble beginnings, the company has grown into
one of the leading players in our industry. This company has been listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange since 1987. Our customers include a wide range of South African national companies.
We are currently in the process of recruiting for a QC Supervisor.   This person will ensure products manufactured conforms to quality, safety and reliability standards.
Reports to:Â Quality Control Manager
Responsibilities include:
Quality Control Planning
- Develop and implement quality control procedures and protocols to ensure compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct regular audits to identify areas for improvement, recommend and implement corrective actions.
- Develop and maintain quality control records, including documentation of test results, inspection reports, and corrective actions taken.
Quality Control Inspection
- Apply the companyâs quality principles and standards
- Maintain Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
- Conduct regular inspections of production processes, products and material to ensure compliance with quality standards.
- Conduct testing and evaluation of products to ensure they meet quality standards and regulatory requirements.
- Identify and document non-conformance and implement corrective action.
Personnel Management
- Responsible to lead, motivate, train and manage subordinates.
- Responsible to manage employees in terms of attendance, timesheets, disciplinary code, policies and procedures and rostering of tea & lunch breaks.
- Ensure that packers and operators record and report rejects and problems immediately.
- Monitor production output in terms of job specifications, production plan, machine specifications.
- Ensure control and recording of output, down times and deviations.
- Hold regular performance reviews to discuss performance against objectives, counselling employees where performance is not in line with the standards.
- Motivate team to develop with a focus on ongoing improvement. Implement good ideas, give credit where due, support, counsel and discipline where necessary.
- Administer return to work interviews.
- Practical hands-on passing on of skill (âShow and doâ).
- Guide team to ensure that members deliver output and performance of acceptable standard of own accord.
- Communicate and confirm values and goals and clarify roles on an ongoing basis.
- Proactively communicate consequences of misconduct to team members.
- Conduct discipline and counselling where necessary, staying within the limits of orderly actions in terms of the disciplinary code.
Customer Service
- Respond to customer inquiries regarding product quality and provide resolutions to customer complaints
- Collaborate with internal sales and sales team to resolve issues related to product quality.
Reporting and Administration
- Ensure shift handover meeting takes place daily.
- Ensure daily audits on quality / visual inspections and housekeeping take place.
Health and Safety
- Ensure and enforce that aspects in area of responsibility conform to Health and safety requirements.
- Maintain housekeeping standards in area of responsibility (e.g. ensure cleanliness assigned machines and areas).
- Work safely and report on safety hazards or issues.
- Report any accidents, incidents and near misses.
Food Safety System Certification (FSSC)
- Food safety standards are site specific and at these sites employees should:
o Apply the siteâs food safety principles and standards.
o Report any food safety hazards or issues to your Supervisor/Manager.
- Comply to and maintain all GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices) in relation to the Companyâs FSMS (Food Safety Management System).
Self-development and Growth
- Realistic assessment of own strengths and development areas and undertake actions to address weaknesses.
- Stay up-to-date with changes in regulations and industry standards and implement changes as required.
General
- Ensure team knows what to do and where to find information if you are not available
- Inform yourself about and apply the company’s principles and standards

JOB EVALUATION CRITERIA
- A) Knowledge and Skills
Secondary Education  – Matric
Tertiary Education (including Diplomas,Certificates and Degrees) – NQF 4 Supervisory Management Qualification, Certificate in Quality Control
Experience – Minimum 8 yearsâ experience in the manufacturing industry
- B) Competencies
Knowledge:
- Technical knowledge of process, inclusive of equipment, raw materials, etc.
- Relevant quality system and certification as required

- Ensures that the structure for escalation of responsibility is effective.

- Report on appropriate forum issues requiring action / action from other departments / instances of major downtime.
