Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Technical Authority to lead and oversee the technical standards, tools, and processes within our engineering department, specifically focused on mining industry projects. The ideal candidate will be responsible for establishing, monitoring, and approving technical standards in compliance with higher authority policies and industry best practices. This role requires a seasoned professional with strong leadership capabilities who can drive project execution, support business development, and ensure compliance with engineering standards in the mining sector.
Key Responsibilities:
Engineering:
- Interpret customer needs within the mining industry and offer tailored engineering solutions using our comprehensive product suite.
- Design small to large integrated process-control systems, ensuring best practices in automation for mining operations.
- Collaborate with teams on the conceptual and detailed engineering design to support customer solutions in the mining sector.
- Lead the testing and commissioning of systems on mining sites.
- Ensure all engineering deliverables adhere to company quality and safety standards, particularly in the mining context.
Technical Authority:
- Serve as a technical lead for Automation Systems within the mining industry, evaluating and applying standard OEM solutions.
- Act as a design authority, completing complex engineering assignments and supporting commissioning activities in mining projects.
- Drive the Automation Quality Issue process, owning the resolution of reported issues.
- Implement and track global efficiency KPIs, ensuring continuous improvements in mining-related projects.
- Perform technical reviews on opportunities, supporting the Project Manager in risk assessments and claims.
- Identify and strategize on risks, opportunities, and mitigation plans within engineering projects in the mining industry.
Project Management:
- Oversee project planning and execution, ensuring that mining projects are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget.
- Develop and maintain project schedules, resource allocation, and budget control for mining-related projects.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, stakeholders, and external partners to ensure project objectives are met.
- Monitor project progress, identify potential risks, and implement mitigation strategies to maintain project momentum.
- Lead project status meetings, provide regular updates to senior management, and ensure alignment with the overall strategic direction.
- Participate in the compliance and support of other project managers in in the mining industry on large projects for the delivery of standards for all components of projects, including risk, scheduling, resource management, procurement of goods, engineering of solutions, commissioning of systems, and continuously improving our customer service.
Business Development:
- Collaborate with the Business Development Manager to manage the sales funnel and develop strategies to optimize sales opportunities in the mining sector.
- Assist in improving customer service and identifying short-term and long-term business prospects in the mining industry.
- Engage with relevant mining clients, establish rapport, and identify sales opportunities.
- Work closely with technical teams to convert sales opportunities into orders within the mining sector.
- Contribute to presentations, meetings, and market penetration programs for the mining industry.
Qualifications:
- Degree in Engineering or a related field.
- Extensive experience in industrial automation, process control systems, and engineering design, particularly in the mining industry.
- Proven track record in project management and technical leadership.
- Strong understanding of compliance standards, risk management, and quality control in the mining sector.
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and customer service skills.
