A design company is looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer for their Durban site.
Location: Durban, South Africa
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage and coordinate the manufacturing processes in either fabrication, tooling and machining or related areas from inception to completion.
- Lead and supervise a diverse team of technicians and manufacturing staff, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence.
- Develop and implement strategic production plans to optimize efficiency, minimize downtime, and reduce costs while maintaining high-quality standards.
- Oversee the procurement of materials, equipment, and resources necessary for production operations, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to budgetary constraints.
- Collaborate with design and engineering teams to review project specifications, identify technical requirements, and provide input for process improvements.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations, provide constructive feedback, and implement training programs to enhance the skills and capabilities of subordinates.
- Maintain compliance with industry regulations, safety standards, and quality assurance protocols, ensuring a safe and productive working environment.
- Analyse manufacturing data, identify areas for improvement, and implement corrective actions to enhance overall efficiency and productivity.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve technical issues, troubleshoot manufacturing problems, and ensure timely resolution of customer inquiries or concerns.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related field.
- Proven experience (10+ years) in a manufacturing management role within the automotive manufacturing industry, with a focus on automated production lines.
- Strong technical background in design, toolmaking, or similar areas of expertise, with a deep understanding of manufacturing processes and equipment.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities, with a track record of successfully managing multi-disciplinary teams and driving operational excellence.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams, stakeholders, and clients.
- Proficiency in project management tools and software, with the ability to develop and execute strategic production plans.
- Knowledge of industry regulations, safety standards, and quality assurance protocols, with a commitment to maintaining compliance and upholding best practices.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyse complex issues, develop innovative solutions, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
