The Kay Mason Foundation South Africa Trust (KMF) is seeking to appoint a dynamic, driven and organized individual as the GM of the foundation.

Reporting To: The Board of Trustees of the Kay Mason Foundation SA Trust
Location: Bellville, Cape Town
Starting date: 1st February 2025 or 1st March 2025

The Kay Mason Foundation is a Non-Profit Foundation focused on enabling disadvantaged children to become the educated, ethical, and productive leaders South Africa needs. Founded by novelist Richard Mason in 1999, in memory of his sister Kay, the KMF works to eliminate barriers to quality education and to help talented young people to fulfil their potential.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
This is an exciting career opportunity for a passionate, motivated, ethical, and highly skilled individual. Reporting to the Global CEO and Board of Trustees, you will have overall responsibility for leading the organization on a day- to-day basis in line with the policies, strategy created by the board, long-term objectives and budgets approved by the Board.
You will be responsible for maintaining the high quality of the KMF’s services and governance, deepening existing relationships with donors across the globe, developing new fundraising pipelines, and building long- term financial sustainability. You will run a small, dedicated team to grow the Kay Mason Foundation into one of the leading high school scholarship foundations in South Africa, changing lives and making a powerful impact on our nation and the world.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and Implement with the Global CEO the strategic direction and accompanying business plan for the Kay Mason Foundation, in line with the foundation’s vision, mission and long-term goals
- Uptake and implementation to reach multi-million rand budget
- Oversee compliance with all relative external bodies required by an NPO
- Implement and ensure adherence to policies created by the Board
- Manage the foundation’s day to day operations and full team
- Management of KMF staff, scholar programs and the recruitment process for suppliers, scholars and team
- Critically manage the scholar’s programs and assist with social development work for each scholar in all areas
- Ensure that exceptional standards of good governance are maintained within the KMF and its fundraising subsidiaries in SA, UK and USA
- Ensure that quality service delivery programs continue to be developed and implemented by the foundation
- Accept joint responsibility with the board and the Global CEO, for ensuring the long-term financial sustainability of the foundation
- Ensure quality financial management, HR and reporting practices, providing accurate reporting of the financial sustainability and service programme implementation to the Board of Trustees and to donors
- Accept responsibility to maintain and grow the positive image and brand of the foundation
- Serve as a primary spokesperson and face of the foundation in South Africa, which may include but is not limited to, attending meetings, marketing / PR and fundraising events, media releases, donor and sponsor liaison and beneficiary meetings and interactions
- Lead, manage and evaluate a dynamic team of personnel, recruiting competent and productive personnel members when necessary
- Ensure a positive organizational culture that promotes diversity and inclusion, professionalism, care, integrity, and beneficiary focus
- Identify and manage any risks to the foundation
- Prepare board meetings and support sub-committees as needed
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
The Kay Mason Foundation is seeking an experienced Executive to lead the foundation . A successful track record in NPO sector with experience and qualification as a Social Work is required.
- Five to ten years’ experience in a senior leadership role, preferably in a non-profit based in Africa
- Candidates will need to demonstrate that they have a passion to provide quality education for all SA children
- A proven track record of leading and growing an organization /foundation into a new era, which includes but not limited to all aspects of fundraising; widening the scope and depth of the mission/vision statement, board presentations, media presentations
- Experience in managing a team through the hiring, training and redundancy cycle
- Basic understanding of finances and accounting required
- Degree in social work or equivalent
