Job Details
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Piping Engineer to join our Project Management team. This will involve engineering design, procurement and construction of various sizes, types of mineral processing projects.
The Piping Engineer’s primary role is to ensure that engineering and design of the piping scope of works is delivered as per design, which will also include management of the design, procurement, fabrication and construction of the necessary piping scope, all done in compliance with the project contract requirements, i.e.project schedule, cost, HSE, and company standards and procedures.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
As a subject matter expert you will;
Be responsible for the design, procurement and integration of the piping scope in the design of the rest of the plant scope of works within the project budget and schedule constraints and meeting the required quality standards.
Manage the preparation of detailed design drawings, material specifications and procurement.
Coordinate activities and resolve issues among proponents, contractors, and other parties to allow construction activities to progress according to the project schedule and finalize mechanical completion.
Review the project piping schedule, and coordinate and monitor the piping scope of work and monitor and report on the piping fabricators progress and quality, and resolve and mitigate any schedule, fabrication or quality issues.
Fully understand contract documents (inclusive of appendices, drawings, and specifications), project execution plan, interface management, change management, construction sequencing, standards specifications, and project schedule, to support the project manager and/or company representative in the timely completion of project.
Analyze and maintain schedules and budgets.
Review and approve project piping scope of work using internal standards, industry practices, and personal experience to ensure a safe design
Develop and apply piping material classes based on product and project requirements
Specify insulation, paint, and protective coatings on Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID)
Select and specify any valves and piping specialty items
Create and maintain internal piping specifications, work instructions, and procedures
Develop and implement strategies to improve project planning, cost, schedule, and/or quality.
Evaluate existing tools and methodologies in your area of expertise and make recommendations on your implementation
Participate in the reviews and evaluation of the capabilities of piping suppliers and fabrication & Construction contractors and make necessary recomendations
Review detailed design and General Arrangement drawings and material specification for the required design and layout of the piping scope.
Education & Experience Requirements
As the successful candidate, you will hold a bachelor’s degree in Engineering from a recognized and approved program. A higher degree is preferred.
Ideally a Professional Registered Engineer.
At least 5-10 year’s experience in piping design and layout, fabrication and construction installation of large mineral processing plants
PMP Certification is desirable but not mandatory.
