ROLE REQUIREMENTS:

Areas of responsibility:

  • In respect of financial process and controls:
    • Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls
    • Ensure that the company’s financial systems are robust, compliant and support current activities as well as future growth ambitions
    • Constantly investigate process improvement
    • Oversight of all transactional activities (accounts payable and accounts receivable)
  • Maintain financial records and GL accounts
  • Monthly journal entry processing
  • Drive month-end and year-end close procedures
  • Deliver a clean and accurate trail balance at month end for review by senior staff
  • Oversight of feasibilities for new stores and store closures
  • Developing reports and analytical insights to inform the business and to drive business improvement opportunities
  • Identification of opportunities for working capital improvements
  • Preparation of accurate monthly management accounts within committed reporting timetable
  • Reporting on variances on actuals vs budget income and expenditure
  • Assist in the preparation of board packs
  • Drive the annual budgeting process, ensuring on-time and accurate delivery in accordance with set timelines
  • Responsibility for the management of property leases for the business
  • Monitoring and maintenance of fixed asset register
  • Review large overdue accounts and work on /propose plans to drive collections
  • Drive visibility of inventory, accounts payable and cash collections performance
  • Prepare cash flow forecasts and cash flow maintenance, ensuring that the company has sufficient cash available to meet its commitments
  • Loading of payment on to bank
  • Engage in ongoing cost reduction analysis in all areas of the company
  • Provide monthly analysis of variable and fixed expenses and provide recommendations to management to improve profitability
  • Accurate and on-time statutory return submissions
  • Ensure that regulatory requirements of all statutory bodies are met in respect of the year-end audit:
    • Liaise with external auditors
    • Coordinate the audit process
    • Oversee the preparation of audit files and provide assistance where required
    • Ensure delivery of unqualified annual financial statements within committed timelines
  • Management of the day-to-day finance function and finance team
  • Ensuring that the finance team is made up of the right calibre of people to deliver on the finance function’s strategic priorities
  • Review of all underlying team work including debtors cycle/creditors cycle/bank etc.
  • Keeping abreast of latest SARS/IFRS developments
  • Review and sign off of monthly payroll
  • Assist the senior financial management with ad hoc tasks/projects as and when required
  • Maintain relationships with the company’s bankers and financiers
  • Legal related issues, trademark registrations and renewals and company secretarial matters
  • Tax compliance 9vat and income tax returns) as well as identifying tax planning opportunities
  • Responsible for the IR function within the business

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

  • 5 years previous financial management experience
  • Fully qualified CA(SA) or equivalent – min requirement is B.Com + completed articles
  • Previous experience in managing a finance team
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Office Suite, specifically MS Excel
  • Medium or large scale recognised ERP experience (Sage, SAP, netsuite)
  • Payroll administration
  • SARS reporting
  • Management reporting
