Job Details

An integrated technology group is looking for an Occupational Health Practitioner to promote health and safety to all employees by facilitating an Employee Health Program which includes disease detection, prevention, and treatment; following up employee illnesses and injuries; conducting employee health screenings and promoting a safe work environment. 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES, NOT LIMITED TO: 

  • Ensure completion and follow-up of pre-placement medical examinations complying with relevant legislation. 
  • Manage the medical surveillance programmes of the company (e.g.) periodical medicals, biological monitoring, transfer examinations and exit examinations. 
  • Manage and control OHS Risk analyses and assessments per workstation including the management of the OHS HIRA. 
  • Management & monthly reporting of incidents, accidents, and injuries on duty, to verify extend of injury or occupational disease. 
  • Assess and manage disability cases. 
  • Manage the Occupational Health Clinic and act as resource and advisor to staff regarding the health care services that are provided to employees and the process to receive care. 
  • Maintain medical records of all employees and ensure that it is stored in secure location 
  • Wellness development and Management, to conduct a health promotion programme regularly 
  • Promote the Employee Assistance Programme through individual and /or supervisor referrals. 
  • Regular checks on all drug registers, medicine permit and WCC documentation 
  • Maintain a regular check on Stock control-equipment, medicines, and sundries, to ensure budgetary requirements are met. 
  • Manage OHS awareness training within the factory and personnel. 
  • Test for HIV/High blood upon request from employee and provide pre &post counselling. 
  • Arrange for annual auditory screening for employees onsite. 
  • Ensure family planning materials are available for staff. 
  • Ensure payment of company clinic license. 
  • Quarterly checking of first aid boxes to ensure the stock is sufficient and safe for use. 
  • Ensure education of first aiders on emergency preparedness 
  • Ensure education of first aiders on procedures when exposed to medical waste. 
  • Ensure first aiders are educated on procedures for disposal of medical waste. 
  • Advise management on any conditions experienced by employees which pose a risk to the business. 
  • Screening and testing for Infectious disease such a COVID19. 
  • Implementation of ISO 45001 with other stakeholders 
  • Management of Procare 
  • Implementation of employee wellness intervention 
  • Key performance indicators

    • OHS awareness training 

REQUIREMENTS  

  • Matric, Certificate or B Tech Degree in Occupational Health Nursing 
  • Registered with South African Nursing Council (SANC), Registration with either DENOSA or SASOHN 
  • Certificates in Audiometry, Spirometry, and physical assessment 
  • License to dispense medication. 
  • 5-10 years’ experience in all aspects of Occupational Health in a manufacturing environment 
  • Sound knowledge of relevant statutory legislation. 
  • Knowledge of environmental and health hazards within the workplace. 
  • Working knowledge of procedures of the Compensation Commissioner. 
  • EAP and Disability Management experience. 
  • Sound working knowledge of Microsoft Office package.
