Job Details
A small school providing quality child care and educare services is looking for a Pre-School Teacher to provide quality childcare and to help children reach their developmental milestones. To plan activities / lessons according to the guidelines provided by the National Early Learning Development Standards and CAPS in order to prepare and lay the foundations needed for young children to succeed when they enter the formal schooling system i.e., primary school. Located in Panorama, Cape Town.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:
- Provide basic quality care and caregiving activities for children in your care.
- Ensure the health and safety of the children in your care at all times.
- Manage classroom activities including lessons, play, breaks and meals
- Provide appropriate supervision for children at all times
- Help children reach their developmental milestones through appropriate and engaging activities.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with children and parents.
- Facilitate various activities for children including songs, games and storytelling
- Preparing Group activities, one-on-one instruction, and learning through creative activities.
- Establish and enforce rules of behaviour for children in their classrooms
- Provide tools and resources for children to use and explore during learning and play activities.
- Adapt teaching methods and materials to meet the interests and learning styles of children.
- Promoting the general progress and well-being of individual children or class of children entrusted to her.
- Design and follow a full schedule (weekly themes) of activities and discover suitable teaching material.
- Planning, preparing and delivering lessons (Lesson plans) to all children in the class that are age appropriate, developmentally stimulating and exciting for young learners;
- Teaching according to the educational needs, abilities and achievement of the individual children within the class.
- Balance you’re teaching between logical and social exercises
- Use a wide range of teaching methods (stories, media, indoor or outdoor games, drawing etc.) to enhance the child’s abilities.
- Observe children’s interactions and promote the spirit of concord.
- Encourage children to interact with each other to develop social skills.
- Continuously evaluates and assess children’s performance to make sure they are on the right learning / developmental track.
- Formal assessing, recording and reporting on the development, progress, attainment and behaviour of one’s class; 2 x progress reports per year provided to parents i.e., End of June and December.
- Remain in constant communication with parents and update them on the progress of their children.
- Identify behavioral problems and determine the right course of action along with the principal.
- Collaborate and work as a team player with other colleagues.
REQUIREMENTS
- NQF ECD level 6 Diploma
- At least 3 years’ experience
- Reliable References
- Previous experience with age 4-5 years
- Very passionate and energetic
- Police clearance
- Candidate should be of age where they are still capable of caring for young children.
- The candidate should be physically healthy and of sound mental health to meet all the demands required for caring for children i.e., be able to pick up young children, crouch, bend down to their level, help children to deal with their emotions in a loving and caring manner.
